That adventure was the perfect end to this past week&#8217;s energizing and inspiring retreat with the leadership team in Colorado Springs. The retreat gave us much to process, and generated some potent ideas and concepts to bring into our upcoming RAO retreat, September BOT executive committee meeting and October staff and trustees meeting \u2014 more to come there. As we barrel towards the end of FY21 WESTAF is busier than ever, with a super addition to the team, new guests and registrants for the Creative Vitality Summit, some final tinkering to the FY22 operating budget, and a whirlwind of other activity across all departments. There are now 34 speakers, panelists, and moderators confirmed for the session, and we anticipate as many as 40. 62% of speakers, panelists, and moderators are women and 62% are BIPOC at this stage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>WESTAF TU&#039;UINA FY21 FA&#039;AALI&#039;IGA I TU&#039;UGA MO STATE O 8:1 (DH)<\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of our annual benefits of participation review for states, we have begun to calculate the direct monetary return on investment (ROI) for the states that invest in WESTAF. The FY21 aggregate ROI for the states in our region is 8:1. In addition, we have increased WESTAF direct funding in the 13 states by 288% and the monetary value of state benefits by 236% over the last two years. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1EiW-gB1_RCHssfUUmTjSQ7k6WOso_dJldiW-B5CVefw\/edit\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This chart<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shows the monetary increase in our funding and benefits across the region from FY19-FY21. If we were to consider the over $830 million in state relief funding appropriated across the region in ROI calculations (given both our direct and indirect engagement with advocacy efforts to secure these funds in the 13 states), ROI would be over 2600:1 in aggregate across the region. These results were made possible through increased investment from the National Endowment for the Arts through federal stimulus funding (which WESTAF actively advocated to secure), new investment from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and reallocation of WESTAF resources to support state level advocacy efforts. We recognize that the impact of state participation benefits extends far beyond their monetary value, but also know that this is an important metric in public sector decision making. This legislation is co-sponsored by Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Chellie Pingree (D-ME), and Ted Lieu (D-CA). The Senate bill will be co-sponsored by Senators Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and Alex Padilla (D-CA). We encourage our networks to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fernandez.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/fernandez.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/OnePagerFinal.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inform themselves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> about this vital effort and support the measure with their members of Congress. The bill seeks funding through the Department of Labor and NEA to provide grants for various public-facing creative workforce projects across the country.
