This gorgeous Denver spring weather almost made me forget that we\u2019re now officially <\/span>half way through<\/span> WESAF\u2019s fiscal year! How did this happen? Let us skim right over that, and convey that we are so very joyful to welcome Anika Kwinana to WESTAF (her first day is today, April 5!) and also to announce that Moana Palalei Hoching is also joining us as a senior policy associate working with David. More information about Moana is included below. These sharp and savvy experts will provide much needed leadership, oversight and support in our SRI and AAP divisions, and we couldn\u2019t be more thrilled that they\u2019re joining the WESTAF community. From there, lots to report \u2014 including a chockablock marketing\/communications check-in from a very busy Leah, and some newsy and very cool business updates \u2014 so let\u2019s get to it, shall we? Le fiduciaire Mike Lange nous a inform\u00e9s que le comt\u00e9 d'Eagle a remport\u00e9 lundi la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de remise des prix du gestionnaire de l'ann\u00e9e de la Colorado City and County Management Association, la CCCMA ayant reconnu la directrice de la ville d'Eagle et la fiduciaire de WESTAF Brandy Reitter comme gestionnaire municipale de l'ann\u00e9e. Le comit\u00e9 ex\u00e9cutif s'est r\u00e9uni pour sa r\u00e9union mensuelle le 24 mars avec de nombreuses questions d'actualit\u00e9 \u00e0 aborder, ce qui a donn\u00e9 lieu \u00e0 une discussion stimulante et de grande envergure. February financials are available for your review. February is the 5th month of our fiscal year. Here are the <\/span>February cash summary<\/span><\/a> and the accompanying <\/span>memo<\/span><\/a>. <\/span>The March end of year projections<\/span><\/a> are also available. This is the first month we see the second Paycheck Protection Program loan which is on line 33. Otherwise, income and expense are in a good position and our projected deficit at year end has been significantly reduced from the budget.<\/span><\/p>\n

FINANCES ET ADMINISTRATION (AH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

We are considering changes to our HR & Operations post-pandemic and planning for the shared use of our offices until the lease expires in Dec. Amy researched state tax and legal implications of staff traveling and working from other states per the recommendation of the Employers Council. Amy scheduled time with Anika and Becky for training on how to manage SRI financials. The 990 tax form and audit draft were approved by the excom and the full board via emailed unanimous consent. The<\/span> document retention policy<\/span><\/a> was reviewed by the excom and shared with all staff who are asked to consider the policy and how it applies to their paper files. An overview of the benefits provided with a <\/span>membership for WeWork<\/span><\/a> was also discussed with the excom and shared with the full staff.<\/span><\/p>\n

S\u00c9ANCE DE CONFIANCE\/R\u00c9TROACTION ANIM\u00c9E PAR L'\u00c9QUIPE DE RESSOURCES EN LEADERSHIP AVEC VAL ATKIN (CG)<\/b><\/h2>\n

This past week, the leadership team participated in a two-hour coaching session with Val Atkin from <\/span>Well Street Consulting<\/span><\/a>. This was a powerful level-set meeting with the team around components of trust and psychological safety as well as how to develop a safe and effective feedback culture within the whole organization, something that we\u2019re angling towards as a component of our professional development and evaluation process with Insights.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking of <\/span>Insights<\/span><\/a>, Christian had a productive catch-up conversation with our Insights representative Kirsti Tcherkoyan regarding our integration of this evaluation and feedback tool at WESTAF. The adoption of Insights is going well since we introduced it to the team last year. The more use the system gets, the more useful it will become to the whole organization in a feedback, personal and professional development capacity.<\/span><\/p>\n

RECHERCHE D'UN COORDINNATEUR EX\u00c9CUTIF (CG)<\/b><\/h2>\n

We have received dozens of resumes for the position of <\/span>executive coordinator.<\/span><\/a> We hope to identify a successful candidate by the beginning of May so that Natalie S. will be able to train this new person through the organizational process leading up to May board meeting, then have the new executive coordinator full onboarded through the summer and into the fall board meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

RETRAITE DES PR\u00c9SIDENTS ET DES \u00c9DITEURS DES ORGANISATIONS R\u00c9GIONALES DES ARTS DES \u00c9TATS-UNIS (CG)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Tamara et Christian ont particip\u00e9 la semaine derni\u00e8re \u00e0 la retraite annuelle des pr\u00e9sidents et directeurs g\u00e9n\u00e9raux des RAO des \u00c9tats-Unis, en compagnie des pr\u00e9sidents et directeurs g\u00e9n\u00e9raux de nos cinq RAO s\u0153urs. Ce fut l'occasion non seulement de faire le point, mais aussi de d\u00e9crire et de visualiser les projets collaboratifs en cours de d\u00e9veloppement, notamment la possibilit\u00e9 d'un programme national ELC dirig\u00e9 par les RAO, un programme r\u00e9gional de r\u00e9silience artistique v. 2.0 et une mise \u00e0 jour sur la National Coalition of Arts Preparedness and Response (NCAPER\/AIR). Christian attended a virtual session on NASAA\u2019s Updated <\/span>Creative Economy State Profiles<\/b><\/a>, describing the value of arts and cultural production in every state prior to the global coronavirus pandemic. The data, published by the <\/span>U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis<\/span><\/a> (BEA) in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts (Arts Endowment), are an authoritative source for the value of the creative economy in every state. In addition, NASAA also released the <\/span>Arts and Creativity Strengthen Our Nation<\/b><\/a>, <\/b>which<\/span> shows advocates how to make a case for public support of the arts as a core necessity\u2014rather than as an optional nicety. Its recommendations originate from extensive message testing and research on the values that motivate elected officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

Christian attended the virtual public portion of the <\/span>National Council on the Arts<\/span><\/a> 202nd Meeting. There were opening remarks and routine voting on recommendations for grant funding, followed by updates on arts endowment activity from the Acting Chairman Ann C. Eilers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moana Palelei HoChing a rejoint WESTAF le 1er avril pour occuper le poste d'associ\u00e9e principale en politique de WESTAF, un r\u00f4le de conseil qui g\u00e8re les principaux programmes de politique publique et de plaidoyer et fournit des conseils au directeur de l'impact et de la politique publique. HoChing contribue \u00e0 la recherche et \u00e0 la communication politique de WESTAF et travaille avec son r\u00e9seau de plaidoyer local, s'engageant sur une gamme de questions de politique artistique et culturelle \u00e0 travers une optique d'\u00e9quit\u00e9. Elle est actuellement vice-pr\u00e9sidente du conseil d'administration de niveau 1 du programme Zoo, Arts and Park (ZAP), o\u00f9 elle aide \u00e0 diriger 14,3 millions de dollars des contribuables de l'Utah vers 22 organisations artistiques et culturelles \u00e0 but non lucratif, ainsi que trois zoos dans toute la vall\u00e9e du lac Sal\u00e9. Le jeudi 8 avril, David rejoindra le groupe des directeurs\/gestionnaires de subventions de la NASAA pour une session entre pairs afin de discuter du Fonds r\u00e9gional de r\u00e9silience artistique de la WESTAF et de la mani\u00e8re dont la WESTAF a adapt\u00e9 nos programmes de subventions pour mieux servir les communaut\u00e9s BIPOC et rurales. Jimmy Castillo de la Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) expliquera comment la HAA a men\u00e9 un audit de tous ses projets d'art public pour suivre la diversit\u00e9, l'\u00e9quit\u00e9 et l'inclusion des artistes qui ont obtenu ces contrats pendant la dur\u00e9e du programme et utiliser les r\u00e9sultats pour r\u00e9former ses directives et son processus de s\u00e9lection en mati\u00e8re d'art public et \u00e9valuer ses changements.<\/span><\/p>\n

WESTAF INVIT\u00c9 \u00c0 REJOINDRE LE COMIT\u00c9 LGBTQ+ DE LA WESTERN ARTS ALLIANCE (DH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

David a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re r\u00e9union du comit\u00e9 LGBTQ+ de la Western Arts Alliance le 2 avril, un nouveau groupe d'affinit\u00e9 organis\u00e9 par la WAA pour \u00e9lever les voix LGBTQ+, affirmer des formes culturelles comme le drag de salon et le burlesque et \u00e9largir l'adh\u00e9sion des personnes LGBTQ+ participant \u00e0 la WAA. PLANIFICATION STRAT\u00c9GIQUE (NS)<\/b><\/h2>\n

The communications cohort has settled into a monthly meeting scheduled which is feeling pretty good for the team. At our last meeting, cohort members reported on some internal research including refining a survey that will be sent to WESTAF internal and external stakeholders. In addition, we are finishing up an evaluation of WESTAF\u2019s brand assets. Our next meeting is scheduled for April 7th and we will be checking-in on the moving parts to this project. We will also be moving into a research compilation phase on that date. Once we compile the research we will move into the first phase of our recommendations. The policy cohort met with our Trustee Advisors on March 19th to review<\/span> the scoping doc<\/span><\/a> and address any concerns. The document is now finalized and will be utilized as a guide to identify upcoming initiatives for the cohort. Co-leaders, Janae and Justine, met with David on Tuesday, March 30th to recap their meeting with the TAs and identify project proposals for the group. The next cohort meeting will be on April 20th.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

MARKETING ET COMMUNICATION (LH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

La plupart d'entre vous le savent d\u00e9j\u00e0, mais nous souhaitons officiellement partager la bonne nouvelle : Natalie Scherlong rejoindra l'\u00e9quipe MarComm en tant que nouvelle coordinatrice des communications de WESTAF ! Natalie assumera progressivement ce nouveau r\u00f4le pendant que nous travaillons au recrutement et \u00e0 l'embauche pour son poste actuel. Nous pr\u00e9voyons qu'elle assumera pleinement ce r\u00f4le en mai. Nous sommes ravis d'accueillir Natalie dans l'\u00e9quipe MarComm ! L'\u00e9quipe a \u00e9galement r\u00e9cemment discut\u00e9 avec Common Notice pour adapter nos sessions de narration restantes afin de relever certains des d\u00e9fis li\u00e9s au travail dans un environnement distribu\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

COMMUNICATIONS ET ANNONCES (LH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Over the last few weeks, we released a handful of significant announcements, including <\/span>our new Director of Social Responsibility<\/span><\/a>, le <\/span>2021 ELC program cohort<\/span><\/a>, an <\/span>ELC alumna joining David\u2019s team<\/span><\/a>, the extension of the <\/span>Tourn\u00e9e Ouest<\/span><\/a> 2021 application deadline program, and <\/span>a statement on the murder of Asian American women and others in Georgia<\/span><\/a>. In mid-March, Leah participated in a kickoff RAO communications meeting, to provide an opportunity for RAO communications staff to explore possibilities for increased information sharing and cross-promotion of stories and grant opportunities across the six regionals. As a first step, the group has created a shared document with all six RAO\u2019s tentpole activities for the year for better information sharing. We will meet again in mid-April to continue discussing the many great ideas that were shared in the March meeting and plan to meet on a monthly basis moving forward. The April edition of WESTAF Now is nearly complete and will be delivered in mid-April. We have been submitting content monthly for the National Endowment for the Arts Newsletter and are currently working on the Spring RAO Activity Report.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

R\u00c9UNIONS ET \u00c9V\u00c9NEMENTS (LH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

After wrapping a successful 2021 Arts Leadership and Advocacy Seminar (ALAS), the MarComm team is now working on a plan to share out the recordings from the event more broadly. We are also planning to build a page on <\/span>WESTAF.org<\/span><\/a> devoted to the Seminar, which we hope to launch by May.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

WESTAF.ORG<\/b><\/a> (LH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

We continue to refresh portions of <\/span>WESTAF.org<\/span><\/a>; most recently, Sam revamped the Technology page (now <\/span>Web Services for the Arts<\/span><\/a>\u00a0 and we hope to launch the newly formatted News page in April as well. We are also currently working with the SRI team on a plan to build out a designated TourWest page to better showcase the program and its grantees and, as mentioned earlier, a page specifically devoted to the Arts Leadership and Advocacy Seminar.<\/span><\/p>\n

MARKETING DE PRODUITS TECHNOLOGIQUES (LH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

GO Smart \u2014 We recently launched our first paid social media video ads for GO Smart, which will run throughout the month of April, and are working on making further improvements to the GO Smart sales site, currently focusing on the Features page. Our 2021 blog and SEO strategy has been initiated, with <\/span>a March blog<\/span><\/a> (authored by WESTAF\u2019s new communications coordinator, Natalie Scherlong!) on tips for creating strong grant proposals. CaFE \u2014 the team recently wrapped up its Q1-Q2 campaign targeting galleries, which generated a list of 40 qualified leads for followup by Ken. With both the email and social media campaigns performing so well, we are working on further segmenting our marketing list of over 2,800 potentials to identify additional audiences based on our CaFE personas to develop a Q3 marketing campaign focused on a smaller, more targeted group. CVSuite \u2014 the CVSuite team is making great progress on its third Creative Vitality List (see CVSuite biweekly recap for more info), expected to launch at the end of April. The MarComm team is launching a new Google ads campaign in April specifically around <\/span>CVSuite\u2019s Reports<\/span><\/a> in hopes of increasing traffic to the reports page to generate more sales around those offerings. We are also planning to launch our first set of paid social media video ads in Q3. PAA \u2014 Sam recently worked with Lori to design a fun, fresh newsletter to the PAA master list of 4,566 contacts. The newsletter highlighted special projects in collaboration with Mural Arts Philadelphia and featured some of PAA\u2019s collection spotlights, new features and enhancements. So far, the newsletter generated three leads and significantly increased traffic to the PAA website. We are currently working on drafting copy for PAA\u2019s first paid social media video ad, planned for an early Q3 launch.<\/span><\/p>\n

AFFAIRES G\u00c9N\u00c9RALES (CV)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Christina a travaill\u00e9 \u00e0 la r\u00e9vision et \u00e0 la mise \u00e0 jour des contrats ZAPP pour tenir compte du passage aux paiements EFT ainsi que d'une clause de force majeure mise \u00e0 jour provoqu\u00e9e par la pand\u00e9mie ; ce travail comprenait \u00e9galement une r\u00e9vision de la politique de confidentialit\u00e9 de WESTAF avec un travail suppl\u00e9mentaire n\u00e9cessaire avec Leah pour mettre \u00e0 jour une partie de ce langage. Nous avons termin\u00e9 les entretiens pour le poste de coordinateur de projet commercial et esp\u00e9rons avoir une offre accept\u00e9e d'ici le 5 avril. Nous commencerons les entretiens pour le coordinateur de l'exp\u00e9rience client \u00e0 temps partiel le 8 avril. Nous avons \u00e9galement apport\u00e9 quelques modifications \u00e0 notre r\u00e9union de vente interne, en faisant passer notre ordre du jour d'un style de rapport sur les chiffres de vente \u00e0 une discussion plus conversationnelle sur les succ\u00e8s et les d\u00e9fis des ventes de chaque produit SaaS et en mettant davantage l'accent sur notre orientation commerciale strat\u00e9gique.<\/span><\/p>\n

CAFE (RV<\/b>)<\/span><\/h2>\n

The CaFE team will be meeting in early April for an OKR Q2 recap. The team will use this time to report on goals, work in progress, update metrics, and summarize accomplishments and blockers. Testing rounds on the new admin ui continues; however, the release date planned for end of April may need to shift and is undetermined at this time. PAA has been busy working on a number of enhancements to artwork detail pages and collection-specific maps that will continue to improve the user experience and leverage more of PAA\u2019s technical infrastructure for the benefit of paid clients. PAA completed the import of <\/span>Park City\u2019s public art collection<\/span><\/a> and recently submitted a proposal to Summit County for the use of the PAA CMS and showcase features. The team continues to work on closing the sale of the PAA CMS to four potential clients; however, while these organizations will likely convert into sales, it won\u2019t be until later in Q3 or Q4 because of budget constraints and schedules.<\/span><\/p>\n
