This<\/span> March 7 Arts Action Alert<\/span><\/a> from AFTA\u2019s Arts Action Fund sums things up nicely, but briefly: with some amendments, the Senate passed the $1.9 Trillion American Rescue Plan over the weekend. It now goes back to the House for a final vote on the same bill before heading to President Biden for his signature, with a target date for enactment of March 14, 2021. While many parts of the bill should have numerous direct and indirect impacts on our sector, of special note is that it adds $1.25 billion additional funds to the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program, and entities can now apply for both PPP and SVOG, for a net award. Also \u2014 intact after at least four GOP amendments sought to terminate them \u2014 $135M for NEA, $135M for NEH to provide grants \u201cto prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the coronavirus\u201d as well as funding for the IMLS and CPB. We\u2019ll know more about how this will impact WESTAF in the weeks ahead and we\u2019ll keep you posted.<\/span><\/p>\n

WESTAF ACCUEILLE ANIKA KWINANA AU POSTE DE DIRECTRICE DE LA RESPONSABILIT\u00c9 SOCIALE ET DE L'INCLUSION (DH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

For now, please do not share this information as we\u2019ll be making an official announcement soon. Anika Kwinana, currently manager of national education initiatives at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, will be joining WESTAF on April 5, 2021 as our incoming Director of Social Responsibility and Inclusion. Anika is Chair of the Arts Administrators of Color Network, and has organized their annual convening that brings together hundreds of leaders nationally. Anika’s credentials in arts and culture and equity are exemplary, and her work has intersected other sectors such as STEM and public health. Her work has touched the Western region, the nation as a whole, and our global community. Anika grew up in Northern California and has worked extensively in the majority of the states in the region. We are excited to welcome a new colleague to WESTAF and the Leadership Resource Team. Before April 5, Anika will be participating in some WESTAF ELC sessions in March to engage the 2021 Cohort. This <\/span>draft of the welcome announcement<\/span><\/a> is being shared, so you can get to know more about Anika – at least what appears in a bio. We are excited for Anika to be joining our team at a pivotal moment. Anika stood out to our review committee as the top candidate, being a leader who will bring much to the culture and impact of WESTAF<\/span><\/p>\n

CHRISTINA VILLA EST NOUVELLE DIRECTRICE DES AFFAIRES (CG)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Nous sommes ravis d'annoncer que notre coll\u00e8gue Christina Villa assume un nouveau r\u00f4le de direction au sein de WESTAF, avec effet imm\u00e9diat : directrice des affaires. Dans ce nouveau r\u00f4le, Christina dirigera la direction strat\u00e9gique et op\u00e9rationnelle du d\u00e9partement commercial qui comprend les cinq produits SaaS de WESTAF. En plus de GO Smart, Creative Vitality Suite et Public Art Archive, Christina poursuivra son lien \u00e9troit avec ZAPP et CaFE, et sera \u00e9troitement impliqu\u00e9e dans la direction strat\u00e9gique \u00e0 long terme de l'ensemble de la division SaaS de WESTAF. CHANGEMENTS DE DIRECTION AU SEIN DE LA DIVISION COMMERCIALE (CV)<\/b><\/h2>\n

In turn, Christina is happy to share that Mareike Bergen has been promoted to ZAPP manager, where she\u2019ll be overseeing day-to-day ZAPP operations and guiding ZAPP into its next, post-COVID-19 recovery phase. Her analytical thinking, commitment to finding solutions, and aptitude for crunching numbers make her an excellent fit for the role, and we\u2019re thrilled to have new leadership in ZAPP.\u00a0 Also, Natalie Villa will assume an expanded role under the new title of business project manager. She\u2019ll be working on large business projects, improving business workflows, standardizing SaaS processes, and guiding efforts at the intersection of business and technology for all five SaaS products. Natalie\u2019s strong organizational and time management skills and ability to understand and communicate complicated processes will be especially valuable in this role. To help support Natalie\u2019s expanded responsibilities, <\/span>we\u2019ll be adding a brand-new position<\/span><\/a>, listed as business project coordinator. LE S\u00c9MINAIRE EN LIGNE SUR LE LEADERSHIP ET LA D\u00c9FENSE DES ARTS SE TERMINE, D\u00c9PASSANT LES R\u00c9F\u00c9RENCES DE PARTICIPATION DU SECTEUR DES \u00c9V\u00c9NEMENTS VIRTUELS (DH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

All indications are that the online ALAS session was a success. In the end, we received 104 registrations for the event, over 80 of whom were non-staff or speakers. We achieved a 63% conversion rate, and 64 unique participants at an average of 35 participants per session. In comparing these results against industry benchmarks for webinars and virtual events, we exceeded the average conversion rate (43-55%) and the average number of participants in a session (20). An event survey has been released, and we will utilize feedback to inform future ALAS convenings and the creative economy seminar we plan to host on Aventri later in the year. Recordings are available on the <\/span>event website<\/span><\/a> for anyone that registered for the event, and we will be making the recordings available to a broader audience in the coming weeks. The Convenings Team and Policy Cohort had a debrief with Christian to discuss ways to improve participant experience for future events and begin to solidify goals for ALAS\u2019 new incarnation. Ashanti McGee, district representative in the office of U.S. Representative Susie Lee of Nevada, was the first ELC alumni to be featured as a speaker in the ALAS program (a move welcomed by our alumni network), and ELC alumni as far afield as Paris, France (Cynthia Chen, ELC 17\/UT, now at Centre Pompidou) participated in the program. With the engagement of three current or former Congressional staffers in the session (also a first for ALAS), Western advocacy and policy organizations, including the Western Governors\u2019 Association, higher education institutions, private philanthropic organizations, creative industry businesses, and national advocacy groups, like the Cultural Advocacy Group and the National Independent Venue Association, we have begun to expand the reach of ALAS and engage key stakeholders segments in our national advocacy and thought leadership work as identified in the stakeholder maps established by the Alliances, Advocacy, and Policy Department in 2019.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

WESTAF EMERGING LEADERS OF COLOR ONLINE LANCERA DANS 10 JOURS AVEC UNE COHORTE \u00c9LARGIE DE 16 PERSONNES (DH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

David, Madalena Salazar, Margie Reese et Salvador Acevedo finalisent les plans et les arrangements pour le prochain programme Emerging Leaders of Color. 16 participants repr\u00e9sentant les 13 \u00c9tats de la r\u00e9gion ont \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9s \u00e0 rejoindre la cohorte 2021. Lundi dernier, Michael Faison, ancien administrateur de l'Idaho et membre de l'EIC, Tamara et Christian ont rencontr\u00e9 Adrian San Miguel sur Zoom. Adrian est commissaire de la Commission des arts de l'Idaho. Il est le directeur de l'enseignement postsecondaire pour l'enseignement professionnel et technique de l'Idaho au sein du conseil d'\u00e9ducation. Il est originaire de la vall\u00e9e du Rio Grande au Texas. Chanteur d'op\u00e9ra de formation, Adrian a pass\u00e9 sa vie \u00e0 s'int\u00e9resser \u00e0 toutes sortes de musiques. Ce fut une conversation merveilleuse, et nous en avons appris davantage sur Adrian et avons \u00e9galement quitt\u00e9 l'appel en comprenant mieux l'int\u00e9r\u00eat d'Adrian pour WESTAF. Depuis l'appel, nous avons envoy\u00e9 \u00e0 Adrian des informations suppl\u00e9mentaires sur l'orientation des administrateurs et il soumettra une br\u00e8ve d\u00e9claration d'int\u00e9r\u00eat au comit\u00e9 de d\u00e9veloppement en pr\u00e9vision de la r\u00e9union des administrateurs du 20 mai.<\/span><\/p>\n

VISITE DU SITE ZOOM DU MURDOCK TRUST (CG)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Un grand merci au pr\u00e9sident Alvarado, au vice-pr\u00e9sident Broughton et au tr\u00e9sorier Lange ainsi qu'\u00e0 David Holland et Amy Hollrah pour avoir repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 WESTAF de mani\u00e8re remarquable lors de notre visite virtuelle du site avec Lorin Dunlop, responsable du programme du MJ Murdock Charitable Trust, le 23 f\u00e9vrier. Nous avons discut\u00e9 en d\u00e9tail de la proposition d'expansion des programmes WESTAF pour le financement du renforcement des capacit\u00e9s r\u00e9cemment soumise au trust. WESTAF has been in a conversation with Torrie Allen, CEO of Arts Midwest as well as our sister RAOs, in imagining how the ELC program and LC network could develop into a program with national reach by leveraging the RAO reach and infrastructure.\u00a0 A brief summary of this concept (still with plenty of details to be worked out) can be gleaned from <\/span>this letter of inquiry<\/span><\/a> we recently submitted to the American Express Foundation\u2019s <\/span>Developing Leadership<\/span><\/a> Program, following up on a lead from Torrie. As you can gather, this is a preliminary inquiry that briefly lays out the history of the ELC and proposes an expanded national program. While this is a bit of a fishing expedition, it\u2019s worth noting that American Express devoted 29% of its philanthropy to its Developing Leaders program in 2019, so if this lands right we might have a shot at continuing the conversation. At the very least, it\u2019s useful language for future proposals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Within the WESTAF community, with the designated SAA accessibility coordinators in our region, and also with our sister RAOs, WESTAF has been in conversations of late about disability culture, accessibility initiatives and possible ways to create and develop authentic, better-resourced programs that reflect the disability communities we should better see and serve. Recently we engaged <\/span>DisArt<\/span><\/a> to help us build awareness, agency and ownership within our immediate communities. Acknowledgement in particular to Lani Morris, grants and accessibility coordinator here at WESTAF for leading and helping us imagine how we could approach this work. More to come soon.<\/span><\/p>\n

PLAN STRAT\u00c9GIQUE (NS)<\/b><\/h2>\n

FINANCES ET ADMINISTRATION (AH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Amy est en communication avec les auditeurs concernant le projet d'audit : les choses avancent bien. Amy et Becca ont visit\u00e9 des options d'espaces de bureaux flexibles dans le centre-ville de Denver et ont trouv\u00e9 des options int\u00e9ressantes une fois que le bail du bureau de Sherman St. expirera fin d\u00e9cembre. Janae a \u00e9t\u00e9 form\u00e9e au syst\u00e8me financier et peut d\u00e9sormais extraire des rapports pour l'\u00e9quipe ZAPP en cas de besoin avec un d\u00e9lai d'ex\u00e9cution rapide. C'est une grande aide pour toute l'\u00e9quipe.<\/span><\/p>\n

CAF\u00c9 (RV)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Ken closed out February with 15 new CaFE clients and Eliza set up 107 new calls in February consisting of new and renewing customers. Also in February, Justine interviewed Ed Dixon of Edward A. Dixon Gallery for a customer spotlight on the CaFE blog. <\/span>Check it out here<\/span><\/a>. Justine kicked off a month-long BOGO e-blast campaign and customers have already begun reserving their e-blast dates. This month, Raquel, Lori, and Christina have a meeting with the CEO at <\/span>Lingar<\/span><\/a>, a SaaS product that makes use of augmented reality to deliver interpretive exhibit content, to explore potential partnerships with CaFE and PAA. Finally, we expect a busy month as CaFE has 111 call deadlines out of a total 217 call listings.<\/span><\/p>\n

CVSUITE (KE)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Une opportunit\u00e9 passionnante s'est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e pour le CVS. Jessica a contact\u00e9 directement 22 prospects positifs issus de la campagne d'e-mails initiale de janvier. Le travail a commenc\u00e9 sur un webinaire sur l'octroi de subventions \u00e9quitables pour les clients actuels et potentiels avec l'aide de l'\u00e9quipe SRI. L'\u00e9quipe technique a progress\u00e9 sur l'exp\u00e9rience de cache HTML\/PDF et a presque termin\u00e9 avec un petit ticket pour s'assurer que tous les utilisateurs du panel utilisent par d\u00e9faut les param\u00e8tres appropri\u00e9s. Lori completed the design, build, and launch of the <\/span>Sunnyvale Public Art Showcase page<\/span><\/a> and public art collection in conjunction with the City\u2019s new public art page hosted on their website. PAA is finalizing details with the City of Phoenix Arts & Culture Department to establish a subscription to the PAA CMS and Showcase services – next steps include a discussion about the security of the system prior to the contractual process. Lori is working with the CVS team on the Creative Vitality List #3 to promote 6 cities in the WESTAF region as public art road trip destinations. Lori is also leading the NEA Women\u2019s Suffrage Mural Project and is working with Lani to polish and distribute the Call to Artists slated for publishing on March 5.<\/span><\/p>\n

ZAPP (CV)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Nous travaillons actuellement \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9laboration d\u2019un plan de transition pour Mareike et l\u2019embauche de son rempla\u00e7ant. Comme pour CaFE, nous nous attendons \u00e0 un mois charg\u00e9 avec 102 \u00e9ch\u00e9ances sur 369 spectacles ouverts. En plus de la prise de fonction de Mareike en tant que manager de ZAPP, nous avons \u00e9galement organis\u00e9 la semaine derni\u00e8re notre session ZAPP Connections. Cette session s\u2019est concentr\u00e9e sur les d\u00e9fis et les opportunit\u00e9s li\u00e9s aux \u00e9v\u00e9nements virtuels et a r\u00e9uni un m\u00e9lange d\u2019artistes et d\u2019administrateurs dans une discussion de type table ronde. Nous avons \u00e9galement publi\u00e9 une am\u00e9lioration d\u2019un rapport interne qui fournit un aper\u00e7u beaucoup plus pr\u00e9cis des comptes clients et aidera aux projections de tr\u00e9sorerie mensuelles.
