This will be my last biweekly of 2020 (I\u2019m going to skip over the one that would have come up right before the new year and give you a break!). The next biweekly should land in your inboxes around January 11. This week, we were also able to confirm our February meeting dates (February 3-4), which had been left as TBD before the pandemic while we determined whether we should do another DC advocacy trip or meet someplace in the west. Well, the pandemic proceeds apace (albeit with sure signs of optimism on the horizon), so this February meeting will be another virtual affair. Our May meeting is still a big virtual\/in-person question as well, but we\u2019ll be sure to keep you posted! Before we dive back in, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I also have news of a biweekly innovation: starting this week, we\u2019ll also be including the whole WESTAF team on these biweeklies moving forward. It\u2019s a great way to for everyone in all parts of the organization to stay up-to-date on what\u2019s going on, and to feel even more interconnected to the work of their colleagues. David a rejoint le CAG pour repr\u00e9senter WESTAF en novembre.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>WESTAF INVIT\u00c9 \u00c0 REJOINDRE LE GROUPE DE TRAVAIL SUR L&#039;\u00c9CONOMIE CR\u00c9ATIVE INCLUSIVE DE L&#039;AFTA (DH)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apr\u00e8s avoir si\u00e9g\u00e9 au groupe de travail sur l&#039;\u00e9conomie cr\u00e9ative organis\u00e9 par l&#039;AFTA depuis fin 2019, David a r\u00e9cemment \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9 \u00e0 rejoindre le groupe de travail sur l&#039;\u00e9conomie cr\u00e9ative inclusive, un nouveau groupe form\u00e9 pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la strat\u00e9gie issue de l&#039;ancien processus. CCI has become increasingly recognized for their program AmbitioUS, which innovative new models of supporting arts and culture with a focus on supporting new economic models and an emphasis on black and indigenous communities. CCI also delivers a range of other programs that advance the careers of artists through direct grantmaking and more holistic professional development. These efforts are being supported by a group of major foundation partners nationwide. CCI was chosen to speak about innovative developments in the field and private grantmaking strategies, areas of interests selected by WESTAF\u2019s state arts agency executive directors in surveys.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>LE S\u00c9MINAIRE SUR LE LEADERSHIP ET LA D\u00c9FENSE DES ARTS R\u00c9IMAGIN\u00c9 SOUS FORME DE S\u00c9RIE DE PANELS VIRTUELS EN 2021 (DH)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L&#039;\u00e9quipe de convocations de WESTAF, compos\u00e9e de Leah, Laurel, Natalie Scherlong et David, a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 planifier un s\u00e9minaire virtuel r\u00e9imagin\u00e9 sur le leadership et le plaidoyer dans le domaine des arts, actuellement pr\u00e9vu du 24 au 25 f\u00e9vrier 2021. Nous avons \u00e9galement commenc\u00e9 les pr\u00e9paratifs du nouveau cycle TourWest qui s&#039;ouvrira d\u00e9but 2021. Notre \u00e9quipe s&#039;efforce de faire progresser les pratiques d&#039;octroi de subventions \u00e9quitables dans la cr\u00e9ation de la demande TourWest de cette ann\u00e9e, les d\u00e9fis de la pand\u00e9mie \u00e9tant au premier plan de toute mise \u00e0 jour et de tout changement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>LANCEMENT DE L&#039;APPLICATION CNMI CARES ARTIST (MS)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today WESTAF launches the CNMI CARES Relief Fund for Artists in partnership with the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Arts Council. This is a relief grant program, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, that provides support to eligible artists whose projects have been\u00a0 impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in the Northern Mariana Islands. Grants will be awarded in the range of $2000-$5000. The CNMI CARES Relief Fund for Organizations remains open to eligible 501c3 nonprofit cultural organizations in the Mariana Islands. Both applications can be found at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cnmicares.gosmart.org\/page.php?id=391\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cnmicares.gosmart.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and will be due quarterly and awarded on a first come, first serve basis throughout 2021. The first deadline will be January 30, 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>ACH\u00c8VEMENT DU PREMIER ELC SOUTH ARTS (MS)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wednesday, December 9th, saw the successful close of the first cohort of the South Arts Emerging Leaders of Color Program. This program was\u00a0 reimagined for online delivery by the faculty, Salvador Acevedo, Margie Reese, Madalena, and David, in partnership with the program manager, Ethan Messere of South Arts. In this revised program, we were able to add new elements to the program, like the online resource guide (designed by 2015 CO alumna, Alex Jimenez), and invite additional facilitators, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidznotes.org\/staff-member\/shana-tucker\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shana Tucker<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> et <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/article\/Indie-Opera-Announces-Ashley-Renee-Watkins-as-New-Cohost-20201106\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ashley Renee Watkins<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We are pleased to welcome the 12 participants from across the South Arts region into the alumni fold.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>LES ENTRETIENS COMMENCENT CETTE SEMAINE AVEC LES CANDIDATS AU POSTE DE DIRECTEUR DE LA RESPONSABILIT\u00c9 SOCIALE ET DE L&#039;INCLUSION (DH)\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Un comit\u00e9 d&#039;examen des candidatures, compos\u00e9 de membres du personnel de WESTAF, d&#039;un membre du conseil d&#039;administration et de membres du r\u00e9seau Leaders of Color, commencera cette semaine les entretiens du premier tour avec les candidats au poste de directeur de la responsabilit\u00e9 sociale et de l&#039;inclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>MISE \u00c0 JOUR DE LA COLLECTE DE FONDS (CG)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After a further round of research on t<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/19qCNUx3ZX7r3QUSeFQPziYRpYahGq4BrKWu9obIRrNo\/edit#gid=284670254\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he comprehensive list of potential funders<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> provided by Beka Whitson, we\u2019ve started to whittle down our approaches to the following foundations, in approximate order of priority: MJ Murdock Charitable Trust (currently in-flight), Mellon Foundation, Windgate Foundation, UMB Charitable Trust, and then the Surdna, Wallace, Sloan and Knight Foundations. Led by Christian and David, with assistance from Natalie Scherlong, the finance team and a team and\/or trustee partner (depending on the specific program) we\u2019ll be developing different strategies in our approach with each potential funder throughout FY21. At our February 4 trustee meeting, Beka will also be providing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1tSVFk2TsHZee5TSAFwgr08zHxIivqHjFAlORuG6LKZo\/edit\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a brief presentation on her methodology<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, take questions and make recommendations to trustees on how WESTAF should most effectively approach this work, moving forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>MISE \u00c0 JOUR RAO (CG)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our sister <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westaf.org\/the-united-states-regional-arts-organizations\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regional Arts Organizations (RAOs)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been meeting frequently with our wonderful new RAO Coordinator Cynthia Steele. Later in this update, you can learn more about the ELC South Arts program, which concluded successfully this past week. Christian also had an encouraging conversation with Torrie Allen, CEO of Arts Midwest, who was curious about what an ELC Arts Midwest program might look like. Torrie also wanted to know more about how WESTAF works with arts advocacy organizations in the western region, and was eager to replicate a similar program in the Midwest. We\u2019re also following up on some initial interest here as well from the Mid-America Arts Alliance. The RAOs have a regular check-in meeting coming up with the Arts Endowment on December 18, and then in mid-January with AFTA. Our working relationship \u2014 together as a group and as partners \u2014 remain collegial, curious and warm.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>FINANCES ET ADMINISTRATION (AH)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les v\u00e9rificateurs de Plante Moran terminent leurs deux semaines de travail sur le terrain ce vendredi. C&#039;est la premi\u00e8re fois que le processus est virtuel et il s&#039;est tr\u00e8s bien d\u00e9roul\u00e9 gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la pr\u00e9paration avanc\u00e9e de l&#039;\u00e9quipe et \u00e0 la gestion du processus par Becky. L&#039;\u00e9quipe des finances et de l&#039;administration est ravie d&#039;accueillir Janae De La Virgen dans l&#039;\u00e9quipe \u00e0 compter du 1er janvier avec un nouveau titre de coordonnatrice des op\u00e9rations de bureau et de culture. Elle travaillera en \u00e9troite collaboration avec Becca sur la gestion du bureau et le soutien des ressources humaines, tout en poursuivant son travail de r\u00e9ceptionniste et en soutenant les produits technologiques. Au lieu de renouveler les laissez-passer annuels de bus pour le personnel par l&#039;interm\u00e9diaire du district de transport r\u00e9gional de Denver, WESTAF verse plut\u00f4t ce $500 par personne \u00e0 chaque membre du personnel pour aider \u00e0 couvrir le co\u00fbt de l&#039;\u00e9quipement de leurs bureaux \u00e0 domicile. Le personnel a appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 cette r\u00e9affectation des fonds des avantages sociaux.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>PLAN STRAT\u00c9GIQUE (NS)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Communications Cohort walked through their Asana project a final time and created due dates and timelines for their brand analysis project. They are now ready to get to work on their brand analysis and recommendation book! The Policy Cohort&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westaf.org\/stories-of-resilience\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stories of Resilience project<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was announced in the WESTAF Arts News and Notes on December 7th. Scoping docs will be finalized this week, which will then be presented to their TAs for review. The Policy Cohort will identify their next project once the scoping docs have been concluded.\u00a0 The Equity Cohort is focusing their work internally, centering people, and practice. They are currently working to develop initiatives to create an equity-based values statement for WESTAF and an equity-focused dimension to new staff orientation and current staff reorientation. The values statement will help to ground their work and orientation reimagined will help to cultivate a more authentic and open workspace culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>CAF\u00c9 (CV)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nous avons transf\u00e9r\u00e9 le traitement des paiements de CaFE de PayPal \u00e0 Braintree, un service appartenant \u00e0 PayPal. Le probl\u00e8me a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9solu en une heure environ.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>CVSUITE (KE)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CVSuite a mis \u00e0 jour les donn\u00e9es pour une nouvelle ann\u00e9e de donn\u00e9es, une mise \u00e0 jour qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 particuli\u00e8rement laborieuse en raison de certains changements de taxonomie et d&#039;API sur le backend. Au cours des deux derni\u00e8res semaines, Trevor, Natalie et l&#039;\u00e9quipe technique ont \u00e9t\u00e9 plong\u00e9s dans des tests intensifs. CVSuite a pass\u00e9 beaucoup de temps au cours du mois dernier \u00e0 travailler sur la migration de notre guide d&#039;utilisation vers le site WordPress. Les mises \u00e0 niveau de WordPress nous obligent \u00e0 r\u00e9soudre ce probl\u00e8me afin d&#039;apporter des modifications majeures \u00e0 des fonctionnalit\u00e9s sp\u00e9cifiques du site. En raison de ressources techniques limit\u00e9es, nous avons d\u00fb suspendre le projet jusqu&#039;en mars. Seyan et Kelly continueront de r\u00e9organiser le site de vente, ce qui comprend une concentration sur la r\u00e9organisation de la page Specialized Impact Reports pour accompagner la premi\u00e8re campagne marketing de l&#039;ann\u00e9e. Elle a \u00e9galement commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9valuer la port\u00e9e d&#039;une am\u00e9lioration de grande envergure et discute avec un petit groupe de clients pour mieux comprendre leurs besoins. Deux clients ont ajout\u00e9 des cycles suppl\u00e9mentaires \u00e0 leur liste actuelle, augmentant encore les revenus attendus. Le site GO Smart a \u00e9t\u00e9 bri\u00e8vement affect\u00e9 le vendredi matin 12\/4\/20, mais Adam a pu travailler avec BRI pour red\u00e9marrer le serveur et le probl\u00e8me a \u00e9t\u00e9 rapidement r\u00e9solu.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>ARCHIVES D&#039;ART PUBLIC (LG)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Public Art Archive\u2019s Power Map virtual experience was featured in an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-flux.com\/announcements\/360989\/power-map-historic-mural-activations\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">E-Flux announcement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (distributed to over 90,000 recipients) driven by Mural Arts Philadelphia as part of the communications for the Power Map panel discussion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>ZAPP (CV)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nous avons tenu la troisi\u00e8me discussion de notre s\u00e9rie ZAPP Connections avec des administrateurs de tout le pays qui planifient actuellement leurs \u00e9v\u00e9nements pour 2021. Notre \u00e9quipe vient de terminer le test d&#039;une am\u00e9lioration permettant aux \u00e9v\u00e9nements de collecter les candidatures de fournisseurs non artistes, l&#039;objectif \u00e9tant que les administrateurs puissent g\u00e9rer plus facilement tous les aspects de l&#039;\u00e9v\u00e9nement en utilisant ZAPP plut\u00f4t qu&#039;une plateforme concurrente. Cette am\u00e9lioration devrait \u00eatre lanc\u00e9e \u00e0 la fin du mois.
