Thank you all so, <\/span>so<\/span> much for the generous allotment of your valuable time and for the thoughts and feedback at the various meetings and gatherings of the WESTAF annual board of trustees meeting last week. We will be following up with a few requested items this week from our discussions. Mostly though, I wanted to hold the space this week to send positive signals for the most important election of our lifetime. It was really wonderful to be with you as a community for the lead up to this week. WESTAF POURSUIT SON ENGAGEMENT AUPR\u00c8S DES AGENCES ARTISTIQUES TERRITORIALES DU PACIFIQUE (DH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Christian and David recently met with Parker Yobei, Executive Director of <\/span>the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (<\/span>CNMI) Arts Council, and Jillette Leon-Gurerro, Executive Director of the Guam Arts & Humanities Council, to discuss the evolution of their agencies in the current climate and the potential to engage with WESTAF\u2019s regional network. Even with budget pressures and reduced staffing, these agencies continue to serve their constituents and reshape their roles to be impactful. We hope to continue conversations with our colleagues in American Samoa soon. Madalena and David have developed a draft MOU with CNMI Arts Council. The MOU more clearly defines roles and responsibilities for the administration of CARES Act funding while presenting possible new directions in WESTAF\u2019s collaboration with CNMI, including their participation in regional programming. In the coming months, the team will develop a provisional structure in the form of MOUs or a charter membership in dialogue with the Pacitfic territorial arts agencies and submit these to the board for consideration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CONVENTION 2020 DES PARTENAIRES DES ARTS DE LA PERFORMANCE ET DES CONSORTIUMS DE WESTAF SAA (LM)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Les jeudi 29 et vendredi 30 octobre, Kaisha Johnson, fondatrice et directrice fondatrice de Women of Color in the Arts (WOCA), a dirig\u00e9 une r\u00e9union de deux jours ax\u00e9e sur l'\u00e9quit\u00e9 avec le r\u00e9seau des arts du spectacle de la SAA, les partenaires des consortiums des arts du spectacle et les pan\u00e9listes de TourWest. FONDS R\u00c9GIONAL DE R\u00c9SILIENCE ARTISTIQUE DE WESTAF (MS)<\/b><\/h2>\n

On Tuesday, October 27, with the approval of the Executive Committee on behalf of the board of trustees, WESTAF announced the 39 organizations across the region that were selected to receive Regional Arts Resilience Fund grants. Awards were made in amounts ranging from $30,000 to $74,000, totalling over $1.7 million. This award was made available by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Regional Arts Organizations, and was designed to mitigate the financial threat to the sector caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Twenty experts in the field of arts in culture met across two panels to help establish funding priorities. A full list of grantees and panelists <\/span>can be found here<\/span><\/a>. Disbursement of the funds begins November 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, October 28, WESTAF <\/span>released the posting<\/span><\/a> and position description for the Director of Social Responsibility and Inclusion to staff and the following day posted it on the WESTAF website and on the job listings of the Colorado Nonprofit Association, APAP, AFTA, Change Philanthropy, Philanthropy News Digest, and Idealist. Please share this opportunity with your networks. Applications are being accepted until November 30, 2020. With support from a review committee composed of staff, trustees, and representatives from key regional networks, we hope to identify an individual to fulfill this crucial role by the end of January 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

FINANCES ET ADMINISTRATION (AH)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Apr\u00e8s la demi-journ\u00e9e de r\u00e9flexion de la semaine derni\u00e8re, Amy et Becca ont d\u00e9sormais confirm\u00e9 les priorit\u00e9s \u00e0 court et \u00e0 long terme en mati\u00e8re d'op\u00e9rations et de ressources humaines pour le nouvel exercice financier. The September year-end cash financials show a stronger cash position than expected with a surplus of $717,000. Throughout the summer, the projections estimated a $550,000 surplus but with the plans for the Mellon and CARES funding solidified as well as conservative spending and income projections, we have exceeded those expectations. The September <\/span>cash flow summary<\/span><\/a> et <\/span>memo<\/span><\/a> were shared with the full board in the October board meeting book and are linked here for your reference. Full projections for the new fiscal year begin in mid-November. The audit will be completed in January and will translate the cash financials into the accrual method of accounting.<\/span><\/p>\n

RAPPORT RAO (CG)<\/b><\/h2>\n

Here is Regional Arts Organization (RAO)s’ updated <\/span>Fall activity report.<\/span><\/a> This report is shared with the Arts Endowment, AFTA and NASAA. Cynthia Steele will officially begin her work as the new RAO Coordinator on November 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

En octobre, l\u2019\u00e9quipe CaFE a sign\u00e9 un contrat avec une organisation canadienne de services artistiques, Biafarin Inc. L\u2019une des raisons pour lesquelles elle a sign\u00e9 avec CaFE est que nous avons la r\u00e9putation d\u2019avoir la plus grande port\u00e9e aupr\u00e8s des artistes. Bien que ce ne soit pas une nouvelle de derni\u00e8re minute, cela indique que le secteur artistique est aux prises avec un faible nombre de candidats. Ken Cho, notre coordinateur des ventes, fait un excellent travail pour suivre l\u2019afflux de prospects. Nous en avons eu 43 en octobre, dont 7 qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 convertis en nouveaux clients. De plus, Ken a des d\u00e9monstrations \u00e0 venir avec la collection Phillips et LexArts. David et Trevor ont pr\u00e9par\u00e9 l'analyse pr\u00e9liminaire de l'\u00e9tude de cas et ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 suivre les donn\u00e9es et leurs conclusions. Kelly et David ont commenc\u00e9 le processus d'entretien des candidats. Nous avons au total sept entretiens qui ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 eu lieu et cinq autres \u00e0 planifier. Sam et Laurel r\u00e9digent les \u00e9tudes de cas pour ceux qui sont termin\u00e9s. Par ailleurs, l'\u00e9quipe CVS se lance dans une refonte du processus de vente. GO SMART (JG)<\/b><\/h2>\n

GO Smart a termin\u00e9 deux heures de formation pour 16 administrateurs du d\u00e9partement des arts et de la culture de la ville de San Antonio. Bien que l'agence soit cliente depuis 2015, la COVID a entra\u00een\u00e9 de nombreux changements et r\u00e9affectations, et cette formation a permis \u00e0 toute l'\u00e9quipe de se mettre \u00e0 niveau. PAA launched a virtual exhibition, <\/span>Lives That Bind: a restorative justice installation<\/span><\/i><\/a>, in partnership with Santa Monica Cultural Affairs. The exhibition, physically located in a wing of Santa Monica\u2019s City Hall, is not currently open to the public, and the virtual exhibition page on PAA will help bring additional attention to additional customized projects that PAA can continue to develop. In addition to <\/span>Lives That Bind<\/span><\/i>, PAA is finalizing content and layout on Mural Arts Philadelphia\u2019s <\/span>Power Map: Historical Mural Activations<\/span><\/i><\/a>, a digital experience built to deepen engagement with and archive a project organized by Mural Arts and curated by Daniel Tucker. PAA has been awarded the Los Alamos public art contract, but the contract is contingent on WESTAF receiving a certificate to conduct business in the State of New Mexico, which required a registered agent. If this paperwork is completed successfully, Los Alamos will be PAA\u2019s second sale of FY21.<\/span><\/p>\n

ZAPP (CV)<\/b><\/h2>\n

The FY21 budget was unanimously approved by the ZAPP Oversight Committee, the group made up of the managing partner (WESTAF, represented by Christian), a partner member, and an artist (member from the community). There will not be a partner payout in FY21, so the group did not have to approve that portion as they normally would. We sent our quarterly newsletter, which featured a report of findings from a survey about artist perspectives on virtual events that we conducted with The Art of Events. You can read some of the key findings by <\/span>clicking here<\/span><\/a>. We\u2019re also slated to release on Tuesday an enhancement to ZAPP that allows events to have a virtual gallery of artists who applied to their event. This enhancement is still in the first phase and won\u2019t be announced publicly until we work out some operational items to ensure this rollout goes smoothly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
